Porthor
A gentle circular walk that involves walking a quiet country lane and then the coastal path to Porthor (Whistling Sands) beach.
Distance: 3 miles
Time: 1 hour
Carpark: National Trust Carpark at Porthor (pay and display)
Postcode: LL53 8LH
Coordinates: 52.831951, -4.723385
Note: There are toilets at the carpark. We recommend pausing for coffee, cake or lunch at Caffi Siop Plas. Please check opening times.

- Leave the carpark, turn right and return to the junction.
- Turn right at the junction and continue along this lane for 2/3 mile passing through a wooded area, farm buildings, left and right bends, before reaching a junction in front of a cottage (Plas Ffordd). [At the junction is Caffi Siop Plas. Check the link above for opening times.]
- Turn right at the junction and after a short distance, where the lane bends left, pass through a kissing gate ahead. Cross the field to a metal gate. Continue heading in the same direction to the corner of the field. The path now bends slightly to the right and follows the right edge of the field to another metal gate in the corner. Pass through this and follow the path as it winds downwards to a stile.
- Cross the stile and down to a footbridge, then climb the path on the opposite bank through bracken to join the coastal path. Head along this keeping the sea on your left, shortly passing Dinas Fawr. Continue through a kissing gate before reaching Dinas Bach. Ignore footpaths leading off to the right in the direction of Mynydd Carreg.
- Reach another kissing gate where you may pause to view Porthor beach. Then continue on the path inland to the carpark.
