Note: If you are using Google Maps set direction to “Capel Uwchmynydd” not “Uwchmynydd”. This path includes a short steep climb on the coastal path. The path is uneven in places so walking boots are recommended.

Uwchmynydd Map
  1. From Capel Uwchmynydd head downhill and take the first lane on the right. Follow this ignoring a signposted footpath leading off to the right.
  2. Where the lane divides and bends sharply to the left, pass through a metal gate ahead and into a small field. After a short distance pass through a second metal gate and then head left along the edge of the field and through a gap into another field.
  3. Follow the path along the left side of this field heading in the direction of a white cottage (Pennant Farm) to a wooden stile in poor condition. Descend through the bracken to a stream. Cross over the stream and take the path to the right keeping the fence on your left.
  4. You will shortly reach the coastal path. Head left along this.
  5. The coastal path passes through a metal kissing gate and then rises steeply to a second kissing gate. Take a breather as you climb to take in the stunning views along the north coast of the Llŷn. Continue climbing to a marker post where the path heads left. You will finally reach another post before the path levels.
  6. Where the path divides take the right branch down into the valley and then zig-zag up the opposite side passing further pathway markers.
  7. The path heads towards a coastguard lookout station at Mynydd Mawr. Pause to the admire views over to Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island). 
  8. Head southeast with Bardsey to your right and descend on a grassy path that eventually meets the concrete access road. Follow the access road downwards until it levels and becomes a lane.
  9. Continue along the lane passing Ty Newydd campsite, where there is a café if you feel in need of refreshment. Ignore roads off to the left and right and return to Capel Uwchmynydd and the carpark.
